Aluminum-Clad Auditoriums

Kengo Kuma Builds the Aix en Provence Conservatory of Music

Kengo Kuma has completed the Aix en Provence Conservatory of Music located in France, which is completed clad in aluminum.

The design is mainly an auditorium, which seats up to 500 people. Moreover, the owners hope that the place will become more of a hub for cultural activity in the area, bringing in known artists to perform and entertain. The building takes on a folded facade in certain areas, which makes the light bounce off in an interesting way, giving the building more twists of originality. This is inspired by origami from the Japanese people and the post-impressionism of Paul Cezanne. Considering the building is a aiming to be a cultural hub, this is a good start with referencing well-known artists and art forms that have developed over the course of history.
