Intricate Cement Carpets

The Concrete Rug by Alex Chinneck is Inspired by Oriental Designs

In spite of the main material used to create the Concrete Rug, it could pass off as an actual carpet. That is because it was carefully modeled after traditional Oriental designs. Complete with an intricate floral pattern, the Concrete Rug is like a large and heavy puzzle made up of 238 individual pieces of council paving slab.

Designed by Alex Chinneck, an artist based in London, in collaboration with illustrator Matthew Gaffen, the Concrete Rug is one of his "investigations into concrete and the boundaries of its material capabilities," as written on The Sculpture House. Measuring three and a half by six feet, the Concrete Rug is housed in a smooth wooden frame. It is available for $2,666 at the Sculpture House.
