Reconfigurable Compact Apartments

White Arkitekter Prototype Homes with Movable Walls

Sweedish firm White Arkitekter are prototyping Drömlägenheten (translates to "dream home" from Swedish) -- a series of customizable compact apartments. The 55-square-meter living quarters in Linköping draw on the concept of Origami and are surprisingly innovative. They are an open space that can be utilized as a living and dining area or as kitchen and bedrooms, depending on the resident's needs.

The compact apartments are a practical choice for university residences as three small private bedrooms can be created from pulling down on partitions, hanging from the ceiling. Additionally, a double bed is concealed in the living room .

The compact apartments are described by White Arkitekter as a "universal dwelling concept" and could be an affordable solution for the housing crisis.
