The 'Car and Shell Skyscraper' Concept Contains a Whole Neighborhood

The Car and Shell Skyscraper is a concept skyscraper are the brainchild of American designers Mark Talbot and Daniel Markiewicz. The concept won the 2nd Place Award at the 2014 eVolo Skyscraper Competition.

The Car and Shell Skyscraper is the designers' answer to the problem of severe congestion in the city of Detroit. The design calls for a suburban neighborhood that spreads vertically rather than horizontally. The plan accounts for commercial areas and recreational spaces and contains three main grids in the form of streets, pedestrian pathways and structural components. All these elements are intertwined to create a revolutionary city facade that the architects believe could someday help relieve congestion in cities like Detroit.

"Throw off the shackles of the endless sprawl," say Talbot and Markiewicz. "Revive the American landscape of boundless freedom and the pleasures of the open road."
