The Bionic Sailboat Takes Design Inspiration from Seaworthy Creatures

The erect mast and the triangular sail have been tried and true mechanisms of marine vessels for over one thousand years. The Bionic Sailboat deviates from this proven functional standard with the proposal of a new design that was influenced by the way that animals move.

The hull of the superyacht is modeled on the body of the whale that swims gracefully through the ocean. The "sails" have been inspired by the wings of sea birds, complete with the ability to be pivoted 90 degrees. When Buzasi Szilveszter's ship is moored, the 80-square-meter pair of wind-catching fins rests parallel to the surface of the water. The four-bedroom Bionic Sailboat picks up incredible speed once the wings have initiated lift-off.
