Humongous Maze-Like Installations

Bjarke Ingels Group has revealed plans for a massive installation dubbed the ‘BIG Maze,' which will be constructed in the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

The spectacular structure will consist of a series of twists and turns that will draw museum visitors into its fold. The complex routes that form the BIG Maze will be initially difficult to discern as they will be hidden behind tall 5.5-meter walls. However, as visitors go deeper into the maze, the walls go shorter. Once they reach the heart of the maze, they are presented with a 360 degree panorama that reveals their escape route.

The 345 square meter BIG Maze will be clearly visible from the museum’s second and third floor balconies, from where visitors can enjoy revealing view of the labyrinth below.

"This distinctive maze offers our visitors a chance to physically interact with the work of a cutting-edge, international design firm," says Chase Rynd, Executive Director of the National Building Museum. "It will be a great framework for exploring the exhibition later in the fall."
