The Serge Salat 'Beyond Infinity' Installation is Disorientating

The Serge Salat 'Beyond Infinity' installation is a multi-sensory experience that uses mirrors, light, music and fractal art that amazes and blows away all perceptions of space. Serge Salat, a french architect well-known for large, infrastructure projects such as international airports or TGV train stations, has created this installation as a vehicle showroom, and was sponsored by Buick automaker.

The structure is completely enclosed, measures 12.45 by 10.8 meters at a height of 3.8 meters and is made out of a steel infrastructure covered in aluminum panels with mirrors. Using spatial techniques characteristic of Suzhou gardens, the whole experience is meant as a "mystical journey,'' according to Salat, through abstract Chinese gardens.

The infinite reflections of the mirrors distort all perceptions of space as the music plays, the lights pulse from ultraviolet blue to white creating an unreal setting.

The Serge Salat Beyond Infinity project was installed at Shanghai's Westgate Mall until the 18th of September, and will be installed for three days each in Beijing, Chengdu, Dalian, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.Photo Credits: designboom, thefoxisblack
