Sand Angel Installations

The Lifesaving Society's Beach Art Piece Raises Awareness on Drowning

To bring the attention of swimmers to National Drowning Awareness Week in British Columbia, the Lifesaving Society set up a dramatic beach art installation. The installation was set up to commemorate people who drowned at the beach and it did so in the form of a sobering series of snow angels made with sand.

Each one of the 'Angels of the Water' is named on a plaque, helping to bring a realness to the awareness stunt, proving that people do die from drowning. The rows upon rows of angels lined up on the beach is a poignant way to remind people to stay safe, as well as one that's respectful to the beach and the environment, since the silhouettes will be washed away when the tide rolls in.
