Bar Far is an immersive exhibition and working bar by artists Clementine Keith-Roach and Christopher Page, presented at Villa Lontana’s new space in Trastevere. The installation uses timber for the bar and bench, while much of the surrounding environment is formed through plaster casts and reliefs that mimic and merge with the building. Studio Strato collaborated on the renovation of the space that hosts the installation, but did not author the installation itself.
Keith-Roach’s sculptural elements introduce bodily fragments and architectural motifs that appear structural but reveal themselves as painted plaster, while Page’s wall painting creates shifting perspectival illusions.
Lighting is carefully designed to heighten the trompe l’oeil effects, shaping mood and directing attention across surfaces. Together, the materials and illusions create a dreamlike setting that visitors can inhabit, gather within, and experience through movement, conversation, and drink. with artificial light playing a central role in shaping atmosphere and perception.
