The hill-hidden shoreline shed was designed at the request of owners Margaret and Grant Pomeroy who wished not to interrupt their breathtaking view from their cottage of Balsam Lake. Eager for the challenge of making such a considerable construction invisible, architect Alex Bozikovic opted for a steel culvert structure typically used in the robust building of underground tunnels.
To soften up the burly curves of the formidable form, the designer planted sod as a sort of green roof over the arching space so it would blend in with the grassy bank. The resulting appearance of the Balsam Boathouse by Agathom Co. is one that appreciates the topography that surrounds it.
