By putting pins and needles to use, Ann Carrington mosaics are fascinating works of art. British artist Carrington uses little nicknacks and odds and ends that most people can't find a purpose for, and arranges them into extremely impressive large-scale mosaics full of texture and detail.
One of her most recent pieces is Manhattan Mettle, a large portrait of the city's skyline by night, made out of quarters, dimes, subway tokens, nails, pins and other metal objects that stand out against the black cloth background. Another impressive creation is the Pearly Queen of Jubilee Gardens, a richly hued gold on red stamp design that is made up entirely of tiny golden buttons arranged on red velvet.
