Imaginative mixed media artist Anila Quayyum Agha has recently created a series called ‘Intersections’, which is essentially a shadow art exhibit. Agha has created an intricately carved wooden cube, which holds a light on the inside. Once suspended in a showroom this cube projects elaborate designs on all the surrounding walls in the most beautiful and intriguing way.
The designs which are being projected by this floating cube are mean to look like patterns found in sacred Islamic locations. Agha found inspiration for this shadow art project through the exclusion women face in reference to these places. In a modern space, Agha’s Intersection cube allows both men and women to appreciate these culturally based patterns free of consequence, which is admirable and clever.
