HD Video-Streaming Apps

The Alively App Lets Users Stream High-Quality Videos to Their Friends

The Alively app is a video-sharing system from the former head product manager of Facebook Live. Working at Facebook, Vadim Lavrusik realized that the social network's livestreaming video service, as well as other sharing apps like Instagram, prevented teens from sharing without inhibition, since they would take down their images and videos if they didn't receive enough likes. The Alively app removes any sort of like feature, only allowing for people to comment and hopefully encouraging a freer live video-sharing environment.

The app works similarly to Snapchat in that a user's contacts are the same as the contacts in their phones. But, while Snapchat sends images and videos for later viewing, the Alively app is (almost) livestreamed. The app intentionally adds a 10 to 30 second delay to ensure that the streaming video reaches the highest possible quality.
