Pitched Roof Airport Designs

Twelve Architect's Design for This Siberian Airport is Traditional

Utilizing a traditionally inspired approach that makes use of pitched roof elements, London-based practice Twelve Architects is tasked with developing a new airport design for a terminal near Novy Urengoy in North West Siberia. The silhouette of the building and the form of its structural elements are created specifically to mimic traditional reindeer herder tents, called chums.

Twelve Architects have previous experience creating building and airport designs in Russia. The London-based practice strives to foster a symbolic relation between architectural creation and the cultural values of the region in question. Travelers will be able to derive some sense of culture and tradition with the beautiful tent-style roof that, in turn, mixes traditional elements with modern sleekness.
