The Air Works sneaker marks Nike's first public step toward 3D-printed footwear, developed in partnership with additive manufacturing company Zellerfeld. Unveiled by Blue Room's Motoi Hatsuki, the prototype features a one-piece printed construction that eliminates traditional stitching and overlays, creating a streamlined slip-on silhouette. Inspired by the Air Max 1000 and Tailwind V, the design incorporates oversized Air units at the heel and forefoot, including a neon yellow heel bubble, while paisley-inspired looping textures add visual depth across the side panels.
Created through Nike's Air Works Program, the concept was developed alongside eight global creatives working with Nike engineers to explore new manufacturing possibilities. Branding is intentionally understated, allowing the printed form, textures and cushioning elements to define the design. Limited friends-and-family editions of each participant's concept are expected to roll out ahead of Air Max Day 2027, offering an early look at Nike's evolving approach to additive footwear production.
