Espolòn has launched Espolòn Extra Añejo in the US, a new ultra-premium tequila from Campari Group featuring a double-cask maturation process, with two-and-a-half years of ageing in American oak followed by a six-month finish in French Chardonnay casks. Created by maestro tequilero Jesús Susunaga Acosta, the expression is available nationwide in the US with a suggested retail price of US$69.99.
The tequila combines notes of caramel and vanilla with toasted oak and sweet spice, while the bottle features a matte-black finish, neon green lettering and José Guadalupe Posada-inspired artwork depicting a serenata. According to the brand, the Chardonnay casks were selected to add complexity while preserving Espolòn’s signature flavour profile.
For consumers, the release expands access to the extra añejo category by offering a wine-cask-finished expression at a relatively accessible price point, combining aged-spirit depth with recognizable tequila character. The launch also reflects a broader trend of spirits brands using cross-category barrel finishes to introduce new flavour dimensions and premiumize established portfolios.
