Blockchain Whisky Bottles

Ailsa Bay Scotch's Packaging Lets Customers Track the Product's Journey

William Grant & Sons' Ailsa Bay Scotch can now be found in whisky bottles that feature blockchain technology, which allows shoppers to digitally track the production of the alcohol product. The travel retail-exclusive whisky was created in collaboration with Arc-Net, a blockchain technology company.

Thanks to the brand's use of blockchain technology, consumers are able to get a unique look into the distilling and manufacturing process, as well as other parts of the product's journey before it reaches the store. When it comes to discovering the origins of each whisky bottle, users are able to scan a unique QR code to access a web experience.

As Dominic Parfitt, William Grant & Sons' head of e-commerce, describes, "We’re doing something now that we hope will set the bar for the future experience of spirits, and we look forward to seeing how other brands follow suit as innovation within the industry continues to develop in the next few years."
