Plastic Five-Ton Whale Sculptures

STUDIOKCA Embarks on an Ambitious Project with Ocean Plastic

Brooklyn-based agency STUDIOKCA aims to raise awareness for pollution in the oceans with a four-storey tall whale sculpture. The artwork is situated in one of the main canals in Bruges, Belgium. Dubbed ‘Skyscraper (the Bruges Whale),’ the gigantic structure weighs five tons and is "the firm’s most ambitious project to date." STUDIOKCA partners up with the Hawaii Wildlife Fund and together the businesses spent four months collecting the materials for the project.

The whale sculpture is fully created out of ocean plastic and is put up for the 2018 ‘Bruges Triennial’ event. With a theme of ‘Liquid City,’ the intricate installation in Bruges invades the audience’s space enough to communicate the dire need to be responsible and thorough in our efforts to keep the ocean clean and to use products that are eco-conscious.
