This weatherboard cottage is located on Bruny Island in Tasmania. The structure was erected by famed harbourmaster Captain Kelly in 1840s. Recognizing the inherent historic value of the house, John Wardle Architects embarked on an epic mission to meticulously restore it. Keeping on track with contemporary elements in modern architecture, the firm worked on the weatherboard cottage with a mindset for preserving traditions.
The process was informed by an in-depth study of the building's history and its occupants. The modern interventions were added in order to make the space functional and suitable for living today. The result is a homey and cozy interior with a rustic charm.
