Waterlicht is a massive installation, created by artist Daan Roosegaarde, that celebrates the Netherlands' water defenses by considering what parts of the country were look like if there were no waterworks in place.
The installation hopes to remind the Dutch about the great innovation that enables the country to exist and flourish even though more than a quarter of it is situated below sea level.
The Waterlicht installation makes use of LED lighting, lenses and special software to create a stunning visual effect. There are around seven LED lights situated at a height of about 2 meters; their movement along with the movement of steam creates sensations of water and waves. Seeing as how the artwork changes depending on which direction the steam is blown towards by the wind, it's safe to say this is truly a piece of art that is one with nature.
