River Cleaning Billboards

A Floating Water Purification Billboard is Making a Difference in Manila

Similar to an air cleaning advertisement in Peru, this water purification billboard is cleaning a river in Manila, Philippines. The floating ad is trying to clean up one of the country's most polluted rivers by purifying between 2 and 8 gallons of water daily.

Floating on the Pasig River, the floating water purification billboard is constructed out of a perennial grass called Vetiver that absorbs toxic substances and is frequently used to stabilize landfills and treat waste water.
The billboard can purify so much water in a day due to its ability to tolerate large amounts of nitrate, phosphate and heavy metals.

An example of advertising for good, the billboard reads 'Clean River Soon' and is possible due to a collaboration between the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission, Japanese beauty brand Shokubutsu HANA, ad agency TBWA\SMP and Vetiver Farms Philappines.
