A31 architecture has transformed a warehouse into a stunning, open-concept warehouse art studio and gallery for an artist in Boeotia, Greece. The exterior is notable because it is a massive, concrete shell. The architects were interested in making the exterior structure consistent with its natural surroundings. Architect Paxitelis Kondylis explains, "The space created is open, friendly, solemn and simple. It forms part of the nature as if it has been standing there for ages."
The studio is accessible via a wooden door that is embedded into the double-height glass frontier. The second level of the space is accessed by a set of free-floating concrete stairs that are connected to the wall, but not to each other. The end result is a cool, spacious and minimalist design that manages to be impressive, while not overpowering to the art displayed within it.
