Tuvalu Shoots for 100% Renewable Energy by 2020

The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu has set some bold goals in terms of energy efficiency: Tuvalu aims to be 100% powered by renewable energy by 2020.

Tuvalu has been in the news before with regards to the environment. Since much of its landmass is around three feet above sea level, rising Pacific waters could wipe out much of the island nation's inhabitable areas.

Nevertheless, Tuvalu has installed a 40-kilowatt solar power system atop its largest football stadium in its quest for renewable energy. Since it was implemented just over a year ago, Tuvalu's solar grid has reduced its carbon footprint by 50 tons, according to TreeHugger.
