Tukula Provides Opportunity and Hope for Artisans in Uganda

Tukula, which means "to grow" in Luganda, is a social business dedicated to providing entrepreneurial opportunities to local artisans through the production of unique fashion accessories.

The Tukula shop has a variety of handbags, clutches, headbands and even a children's line, called Wee Grow, all made from fabric hand-picked at a fabric market in Kampala, Uganda. Tukula pays its artisans an above average wage, medical care, access to international markets and prides itself on providing a positive and encouraging work environment, all of which enables them to support their families effectively.

Tukula's website provides brief but inspiring biographical details on its five artisans, one of whom, Esther, was able to purchase a sewing-shop in a small marketplace with her earnings, which she now operates in addition to her work with the social enterprise.
