Asuma Makoto Documented His Traveling Bonsai Tree Around the World

Asuma Makoto's 50 year old Bonsai Tree has been photographed in number of various locations in a collection that follows the traveling tree. Although the images look digitally redone and superimposed, Makoto and his team transport the traveling tree and its open steel frame around the world for elaborate photo shoots.

The collection of photographs were comprised from trips that include harsh climates like the arctic and the desert to risky locations like underwater and suspended in the air. The images are able to beautifully highlight the natural qualities of these locations while providing detailed pictures of the traveling tree itself. These photographs are currently on display in Dallas’ Zhulong gallery, in a collection called ‘Shiki: Landscape and Beyond.' In creating such an innovative collection, Makoto continues to push the boundaries of the 'ikebana' tradition, Japanese flower arrangement, into the modern world. Photo Credits: ignant.de, designboom
