For his travel photography project 'Southbound,' Knut Egil Wang photographs Norwegians as they vacation in "Syden," a word that references of-the-moment travel destinations. Wang traveled to these hot spots, located in Spain, Cyprus, Turkey and Thailand, hoping to explore the nuances between these often unidentifiable, ephemeral destinations.
It's true, despite their variances, all holiday destinations look more or less the same in a photograph. The photographs have a sense of uniformity about them, each depicting the same leisure activities under the sun. Rather than focus on differentiating between each locale, Wang ended up focusing on capturing the Norwegian way of life, or at least, their way of vacation.
His subjects include high-profile people such as the musician Sputnik, as well as Børre Knudsen, an anti-abortionist activist and priest.
