Nanjing-based firm AZL Architects creates a 3D-printed transparent garden pavilion that strikes a strong contrast with a stone-clad house in Shanyinwu, China. The purpose of the project for LEI House was to communicate an architecturally divine design, the appeal of sustainable rural development, as well as the "values [of the owner's] bed and breakfast brand."
AZL Architects uses local materials for the construction of the structure. In doing so, the practice is able to integrate the building into the narrative of the rural Chinese environment. With a strong emphasis on practicality and design, however, AZL Architects is successful in bringing the aesthetics of LEI House to the forefront. The 3D-printed transparent garden pavilion adds a nice lightweight motif to the otherwise brutalist and traditional stone-clad structure.
