The Toshiba Slimee W21 Activity Tracker Smartband was developed for seniors by Oita University as part of a long-term project on dementia.
This smartband includes a GPS tracker, as well as sensors for monitoring acceleration, heart rate, heat and exposure to ultraviolet light. Data that is collected from the device is synced to the accompanying iOS or Android app, which makes it possible to keep tabs on a senior remotely. In addition to someone from afar being able to keep an eye on something like sun exposure, the person who is wearing the band is also able to press an emergency button to signal a need for help.
Even though the device was designed with seniors in mind, the smart wearable can be worn and used by people of all ages.
