The Vana takes on the meaning of forest in Sanskrit and is an installation composed of a collection of illuminated paper trees that looks like a forest canopy. The installation is featured in a New Delhi gallery and was created by London based architecture and design studio Orproject.
The four tree bark like structures are run on a series of algorithms that attempt to imitate the veins found in tree leaves. Christoph Kelmmt, one of the founders of Orproject says, "When the leaf grows, the veins develop with it in order to reach each cell on the surface of the leaf and supply them with nutrients."
The structures were designed by Orproject to imitate natural growth processes of trees. When a tree grows, the computer algorithm kick starts the growth process to grow architecture.
