Augmented Appliance Apps

Heineken Helps Consumers Visualize Where to Place 'The Sub' at Home

Back in 2013, Heineken and designer Marc Newson teamed up to create the The Sub, an at-home device for serving draught beer. Since this time, the appliance has become available for purchase in numerous countries like Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain. In preparation for the launch of The Sub in new markets around the globe, Heineken created an augmented reality app so that beer enthusiasts can see exactly where they should place the device in their homes.

To see a projection of the appliance in 3D, app users are required to print out an image marker so that they can test out various spots in the kitchen or house through the screen of a mobile device.

Now that many consumers are taking steps to make informed purchasing decisions, virtual reality technology is becoming an easy way to help visualize potential purchases in the home.
