The PP-1 is a turntable designed by Waiting For Ideas that reinterprets vinyl playback through a highly reduced architectural form. Milled from a solid block of aluminum, the device eliminates the visual presence of a traditional tonearm and conceals its playback mechanism beneath the record. Vinyl is placed upside down on the platter, allowing the integrated reading system to operate from below while maintaining a clean, uninterrupted surface. The square aluminum body is defined by a single circular opening, creating an appearance that resembles a scaled-up CD player more than a conventional record deck.
The turntable incorporates automatic speed detection for both 33 and 45 RPM records, along with a built-in phono preamplifier and headphone amplifier. Two controls on the front of the unit manage playback, reducing interaction to a simplified process. The dense aluminum construction helps control vibration and resonance while contributing to the product’s monolithic appearance.
