The Maison des Fondateurs Features a Spiraling Design

Danish architecture firm BIG will be leading the expansion of Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet's headquarters with the 'The Maison des Fondateurs.' The museum will feature a spiraling design and will be located in the Vallée de Joux, western Switzerland.

The serpentine pavilion will be partially sunken into the ground; as it emerges, it will expose a series of galleries and event spaces. The intertwining spirals allow the spaces to be accommodated side by side. Bjarke Ingels eloquently explains, "Watchmaking, like architecture, is the art and science of invigorating inanimate matter with intelligence and performance."

Amongst its many attributes, the museum will feature a brass-coated steel roof which will oscillate to create the vaulted ceilings inside. The rest of the museum's exterior will be constructed out of concrete, stone and timber.
