The Kelp Chair is Made out of Fishing Nets and Wood Fiber

The Kelp Chair is made out of unique materials. Interesting Times Gang, a Stockholm-based creative studio, was commissioned by Chefs Niclas Jonsson and Daniel Hoglander to design a chair for a new sushi restaurant concept, the Black Milk Sushi.

The chair was inspired by the lines and silhouettes found in ocean vegetation. Using 3D printing, the chair was made with recycled fishing nets and wood fiber. The Kelp Chair boasts a sustainable design. Fishing nets are often discarded into the oceans and wreak havoc on marine ecosystems, eradicating kelp forests. Thus, the designers and Interesting Times gathered upcycled nets to create an innovative material. Once the Kelp Chair reaches the end of its life space, it can be ground down to create new biomaterials and reused for other items.
