The Drop Light is a 3D printed desk lamp designed by Teixeira Design Studio in collaboration with Oftwise Studio, produced entirely from recycled, plant-based PLA. The lamp is split across two surface treatments within a single material: the base and integrated top tray carry a fuzzy, matte, scratch-resistant texture, while the shade is printed smooth and semi-translucent to scatter light evenly without exposing the light source. The tray at the base is built into the silhouette of the lamp and functions as a storage surface for small desk objects. No secondary material is introduced across the lamp's construction.
The Drop Light is designed by João Teixeira, a Portugal-based furniture designer who heads Teixeira Design Studio and has previously collaborated with Gantri on 3D printed lighting. Plant-based PLA is a polyester derived from non-petroleum plant sources, and the recycled formulation used in the Drop Light contributes a warmth of finish that petroleum-based plastics do not produce.
