Martin Scorcese's 'The Departed' is Being Released as an Amazon Series

Amazon has announced that it will be creating a TV remake of Martin Scorcese's first Oscar-winning film, 'The Departed.' With such a glut of high-quality television available both on cable and through streaming services, it makes sense that Amazon would choose to try and pull in viewers by borrowing the clout of the beloved Jack Nicholson, Leo DiCaprio and Matt Damon gangster flick.

Interestingly, Scorcese's depiction of the 'The Departed' is itself a remake of a film directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak called 'Infernal Affairs.' That movie is shot and set in Hong Kong, however the plot is virtually the same. Following in those footsteps, the new Amazon series relocates the story once again, this time choosing to depict the gangs of urban Chicago.
