IBM and James Murphy Make Tennis Music from US Open Data

This year if you want to listen to the US Open games rather than watch them, IBM and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy have teamed up to create an interesting collection of tennis music. The US Open Sessions involve gathering data in real-time from the tennis matches, combining them with algorithms and then crafting them into unique tracks.

As a result, there are over 400 hours worth of music from the matches. Not all of the tracks are fluid enough to read as entire songs, but it's definitely easy to see where the beats pick up on the tennis ball being hit back and forth across the court. Since some of the tracks are a little choppy and glitchy sounding, Murphy will remix 14 tracks once the tennis championship comes to a close.
