These funky homes are created out of recycled freight containers and are growing rapidly in popularity. The original idea by Dutch company TempoHousing was for the shelters to function as temporary housing, but the stackable units were quickly recognized for their innovative style and design. Ordinarily, unused crates like these would just sit around on a lot somewhere, so this is a much greener, more hip alternative!
The 332.9 square foot units come complete with standard living spaces including kitchen and bathrooms, some have balconies, and all have hot water and electricity. To top it off, they're easily transportable by by road, rail or even overseas by boat.
