Charitable Recycling Bins

The Tech-Enabled Goodwill Recycling Bin Revolutionizes Charity

The Goodwill in San Francisco has created what it's calling the worlds first tech-enabled textile-recycling bin. The Goodwill 'GoBin' is designed to make donating clothing easy and convenient. It GoBin mimics a real life recycling bin. It is the same action as if you were dropping a bottle into a recycling bin. The GoBin is ideal for individuals living in apartment buildings who want to donate clothes, shoes, household linens and other textiles.

Goodwill collaborated with Frog Design to design the GoBin with a grant from the San Francisco Department of the Environment. The department has pledged to recycle, compost and reuse all the city waste by 2020. The tech-enabled textile-recycling bin features a Quick Response (QR) code that allows the donor to access an online donation tax form. A sensor inside the bin also indicated when the bin is full and in need of pick-up.
