THA Architecture designed the Sunshine Canyon Residence in Boulder, Colorado.
The clients were a couple who had lost their previous home to a forest fire near Boulder several years prior. Despite their loss, the couple decided to hedge their bets and return to the scene of Mother Nature's "crime." The site, which is just seven miles from Boulder's downtown, is elevated at 7,500 feet.
The home, which measures 2200-square-feet, is designed to frame the stunning views, almost inviting them inside. The north side of the home features two slotted openings intended to allow light into the living space and master bedroom. A skylight in the hallway illuminates the transition between the bedrooms and living room. Meanwhile, the south side of the home is nearly entirely glazed, heating the concrete floors inside.
