Harmonious Downtown Abodes

The Laidley Street Residence Features a Wall-Length Cabinet

Michael Hennessey Architecture designed the 'Laidley Street Residence,' a contemporary home located in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

The architects endeavored to create a naturally-lit space that offers views of the nearby park and fosters a healthy relationship with the split-level road it is built behind.

The home is accessed through a pivot door that opens to a set of walnut stairs. Visitors ascend the stairs to reach the home's main level. They are greeted with a wall-length cabinetry unit made from oak wood. The purpose of the cabinet-wall, besides storage, is to unify separate spaces within the home, ensuring that the home is harmonious, cohesive and whole in its design. The cabinets are offset by large floor-to-ceiling walls, which break up the continuity and offer access to light and views of San Francisco.
