Humanizing Homeless People Paintings

These Murals by Depaul UK is a Show of Street Art Activism

Street artists teamed up with Depaul UK and Publicis London to create these homeless awareness murals in the name of street art activism. The pieces showcased the plight of people who have to live on the street. In its previous campaign, the charity Depaul UK sold cardboard boxes to help the homeless. These murals were created for free by artists Ben Slow, David Shillinglaw, Best Ever, Josh Jeavons and Jim McElvaney.

The murals can be found in East London, and each one tells a tragic tale of how each homeless person got into their bad situation. Each piece features a URL, streetstories.org.uk, which viewers can use to purchase signed limited edition prints of the murals. The profits will go to the charity.

The pieces choose to focus on an individual story, which creates a face for the usually faceless homeless population in London. It’s heartening to see street art as activism.
