Strand East by IKEA is a major urban planning project that's taking place in Stratford, London. A 26-acre industrial site is being converted into a miniature world with everything accessible by walking. It's located south of Olympic Park and this mini sector of land will offer 1,200 homes, a Marriott hotel and a school. On top of that, there'll be 620,000 square feet of restaurants, boutiques, commercial sites and healthcare facilities.
The purpose of this project works around the concept of not having to drive away from the area to do everyday tasks. Strand East is truly going to be a little paradise of its own as the area design will be a car free zone; underground parking is available and will free the area with the hassle of cars. There are also some suggestions that garbage collection will be fixed to to tunnels that run underground.
Construction for Strand East by IKEA will start 2013 and is expected to be completed by 2018.
