This Steel Lamp Uses a Single Sheet of Metal

Designed by Tim Defleur, the PLI & CO steel lamp is constructed from a single sheet of metal, folded to create both the base and shade. The lamp features a curved back and hooded shade, which focuses the light more acutely from the light bulb to the table surface.

The french designer aimed to create a product that was durable, sophisticated and reasonably priced. He explains, "I found a way to make something stable, the easiest and cheapest way possible but still with a strong personality. In these times of economic crisis, I think it’s relevant."

Defleur came up with the idea while he was experimenting with more malleable materials, like paper. He decided to construct the prototype out of steel instead of plastic because of its sturdier constitution.
