Weathered Steel House Exteriors

Faulkner Architects's Design is Shaded by Large Oak Trees

American firm Faulkner Architects designed a COR-TEN steel house exterior for a family residence in San Francisco. The overwhelming rusty look of the panels is balanced out by the large oak trees and surrounding vegetation of the property. The proposal for the building was required to be "ecologically site-specific, energy-efficient [...] with a strong design identity."

Faulkner Architects used the framework of the structure that previously occupied the property. The steel house's panels are budget-friendly and low-maintenance materials that "refresh every time it rains, just like the landscape." The design of the steel house definitely has its own identity, as the COR-TEN steel is an unconventional building tool that has amazing architectural potential when utilized correctly and in the right context.
