Magnificent Spiral Abodes

This Spiraling House Features a Rooftop Terrace

Portal Thomas Teissier Architecture designed the 'Maison Spirale,' a spiraling house located in Catelnau Le Lez, France.

The house, which is located on the slope of a hill, features a triangular shape that further enhances the view. The elevated, spiral shape allows for greater spatial continuity throughout. However, the best view is undoubtedly found on the home's rooftop terrace, a perfect place for rest, relaxation and sunbathing. The wooden ribbon, which partially wraps around the home and terrace, is externally insulted. This function creates a thermal inertia, ensuring the home is comfortable for its inhabitants during the sweltering heat of the summer.

The irregular, cantilevered first floor shadows the ground floor, which is bordered by glazing. This is particularly useful for directing sunlight in the winter, when the sun hangs lower in the horizon. Stone flooring collects and delivers the heat as long as it's available.
