SPF50 Glass Sun Roof

The Mustang 2009 Convertible

Sports cars with sun roofs are popular but alas too much sun can burn. So for the 2009 Mustang, Ford has come up a glass roof option which will give the driver protection equivalent to a SPF50 sunscreen rating whilst still being able to enjoy the natural light.

What Ford did was to introduce several panels of specially tinted safety glass for the sun roof. Infared rays are thus largely blocked from entering the car. As a bonus, the car's interior finish will also be protected from discoloration. The built-in roller blind allows the car's occupants to control how much light gets in. Sound and vibrational dampening comes from the thin layer of vinyl included in the glass.

This sun roof is an option for both the base line V-6 model and the GT V-8 coupe which can be installed for $1,995.
