Right next to Barcelona's Institute of Culture is a sound-sensitive light show that has been happening every evening since May. Light-emitting bars are fixed onto the concrete floor. These bars flicker depending on how softly or loudly you speak into noise-transferring tubes set up as part of the installation.
This project by David Torrents, artec3 and LEDsCONTROL attempts to link citizens with public space. By shouting into the speaker tube to see how the lights will react, the installation creates a special type of dialogue between people and land. Sounds and light become measurable, as the intensity of voices or even just the ambient sound from the city affects the light show. The lights are like a digital representation of the city's noise level, like that of a sound board's.
