The 'Solar Desalination Skylight' has been designed by Henry Glogau as a solution for coastal communities that struggle with access to drinking water and would provide them with a multifunctional way to continually keep it within reach.
The unit works as a no-cost solution that could be integrated into low-income households and works by being positioned into the ceiling of a home. The system would go to work transforming seawater into potable water for inhabitants to drink and cook with, while the waste bring could be used to power the LED system within for light after dark.
The 'Solar Desalination Skylight' was tested over the course of a month-long expedition in Antofagasta, Chile and is one of the six finalists up for the LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2021.
