SOIL Nihonbashi Hotel by Staple is a nine-storey boutique hotel in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi neighbourhood that integrates plant culture and community-driven design into its hospitality concept. The building’s exterior is adorned with donated greenery, and over 100 plant varieties appear across balconies and communal areas, reinforcing the connection between the hotel and its surroundings. Architect Kiyoaki Takeda’s design emphasises natural materials such as red-brick tiles, custom stone door handles and dyed paper lamps that reflect local craftsmanship and character.
The hotel houses 14 rooms ranging from compact doubles to a top-floor park view loft with expansive windows bringing daylight deep into interiors. A rooftop garden and edible herb space offer guests opportunities to engage with greenery above the city streets. Ground-floor amenities include a pizza restaurant open to guests and passers-by, and the setting links seamlessly to nearby bakeries and cafés that are part of Staple’s wider urban network.
