Wind-Resistant Smart Towers

This Chicago Building Features An X-Shaped Frame For Added Stability

Multinational American architecture firm SOM's '800 Fulton Market' is a smart tower that embeds a stunning variety of high-tech management systems and sustainability bonuses into an office tower that also boasts a unique and eye-catching aesthetic.

Developed by QuadReal and Thor Equities Group, this 19-story smart tower has a special air circulation system that pushes fresh air throughout the tower only as much as needed, enabling the reduction of cooling expenses and boosting ventilation. Some of the other health-centric features in this building include a touchless elevator interface as well as systems that monitor social distancing.

With the majority of this building occupied by office space, there still remains some room for retail spaces, a gym and lounge.

This building also stands out due to its X-shaped steel frames, which are designed to withstand Chicago's famously windy weather whilst making for an eye-catching design.
